Phi Phi Island.
|
Distance from Krabi town: 42 km. Travelling
time by ferry boat: 90 mins/speed boat 45
mins.
One of the most beautiful island groups in
the world, the Phi Phi Islands are made up
of six islands in total: Phi Phi Don Island,
Phi Phi Ley Island, Mosquito Island, Bamboo
Island, Bida Nork Island and Bida Nai
Island. All offer spectacular snorkelling,
scuba-diving and sea-kayaking, in and around
well sheltered bays, coves, and cliff sides
as well as in the open sea. Phi Phi Don has
a fantastic, large, natural harbour,
suitable for boat anchorage year-round,
which is good news for yachting enthusiasts.
Throughout the Phi Phi Islands group Mother
Nature has bestowed a generous choice of
secluded, white, sandy get-away-from-it-all
beaches, as well as abundant wildlife in
terms of bird, animal and fish species. You
can hike for 20 mins. the 1.2 km long nature
trail up Phi Phi Don’s Viewpoint Hill for a
stunning view of both sides of the island or
take a boat excursion around Phi Phi Ley to
enter Viking Cave, location of the famous
swiftlets’ nests, where locals risk their
lives climbing precarious-looking bamboo
scaffolds to collect the main ingredient in
birds’ nest soup – highly valued in Asian
cuisines. The Phi Phi Islands may be easily
reached from Chao Fa Pier in Krabi town or
Klong Heng Pier near to Ao Nang. |
