Krabi province is rich in natural wonders, all just minutes away
from Krabi town. With so much to discover, you may even find
yourself running out of time before you run out of things to see and
do!
Below we’ve listed some of our natural and cultural highlights,
easily accessible by car or by boat.
Transportation to any of these destinations may be arranged either
by yourself or by our tour operations. In either case, we welcome

1.Ao Nang  |

Distance from Krabi town: 17 km. Travelling time by car:
25 mins/local taxi-boat 35 mins.
A group of 83 islands lie within the bay of Ao Nang, all of which are easy to
reach by boat, and some you can even walk to, when the tide is low!!! Poda Island
is the largest in the group. Here you may like to relax on the long stretch of
beautiful beach which surrounds much of the island. Boats for the peninsular
of Railay Beach and Phra Nang Cave Beach, arguably the two of the most beautiful
beaches in the world, can be easily arranged from Ao Nang or from Krabi town. |

2. Susaan Hoi Fossil Shell Cemetery  |

Distance from Krabi town: 17 km. Travelling time by boat/car : 20 mins.
A short drive from Krabi town or Ao Nang, Susaan Hoi or Fossil Shell Beach is
the site of a remarkable geological formation, a 75 million years old ‘shell
cemetery’. Successive layering of shells and snails over the eons of time created
a 40 cm thick layer of ‘shelly limestone’. Verified by geologists, this product
of the Tertiary Age is one of only three examples in the world, the other two
being in the U.S.A. and Japan. |

3. Poda Island

Travelling time by local taxi-boat: 45 minus Just off the coast of Ao Nang, Poda
Island’s fine white sands and year-round warm water make it a perfect place
to spend the day snorkelling, scuba-diving, exploring or sunbathing. |
4. Railay and Phra Nang Cave Beaches  |
Distance from Krabi town: 35 km.
Travelling time by local taxi-boat: 45 mins. Considered to be two of the most
beautiful beaches in the world, these locations are within easy reach of both
Krabi town and Ao Nang
– but only by boat, since they are cut off on all sides by high limestone
cliff faces. At one end of the Phra Nang Cave Beach, be sure not
to miss the spirit house of a local legendary princess and take a
look at the awesome cliffs towering above you, which have drawn rock-climbers
from around the world. This is one of Krabi’s most special places. |
5. The Phi Phi Islands  |
Distance from Krabi town: 42 km. Travelling time by ferry boat: 90
mins/speed boat 45 mins.
One of the most beautiful island groups in the world, the Phi Phi
Islands are made up of six islands in total: Phi Phi Don Island, Phi
Phi Ley Island, Mosquito Island, Bamboo Island, Bida Nork Island and
Bida Nai Island. All offer spectacular snorkelling, scuba-diving and
sea-kayaking, in and around well sheltered bays, coves, and cliff
sides as well as in the open sea.
Phi Phi Don has a fantastic, large, natural harbour, suitable for
boat anchorage year-round, which is good news for yachting
enthusiasts.
Throughout the Phi Phi Islands group Mother Nature has bestowed a
generous choice of secluded, white, sandy get-away-from-it-all
beaches, as well as abundant wildlife in terms of bird, animal and
fish species.
You can hike for 20 mins. the 1.2 km long nature trail up Phi Phi
Don’s Viewpoint Hill for a stunning view of both sides of the island
or take a boat excursion around Phi Phi Ley to enter Viking Cave,
location of the famous swiftlets’ nests, where locals risk their
lives climbing precarious-looking bamboo scaffolds to collect the
main ingredient in birds’ nest soup – highly valued in Asian
cuisines.
The Phi Phi Islands may be easily reached from Chao Fa Pier in Krabi
town or Klong Heng Pier near to Ao Nang. |

6. Mangrove Forest

Right behind Krabi town. Travelling time by local taxi-boat
boat: 5 mins.
One of Krabi’s richest natural resources is its mangrove forest, which runs untouched
for several kilometres alongside Krabi town’s riverside location. Home to an
astonishing variety of birds, which have drawn bird watchers from all over the
world, this is the place to look out for such exotic delights as Guerney’s pitta,
the brown-winged kingfisher, flamebacks, pacific reef eagles and dollar birds. |
7. Khao Kanab Naam  |
| Distance from Krabi town 1 km. Travelling time by local taxi-boat:
5 mins. Regarded by many as the symbol of Krabi town, these
two limestone karsts rise up over 100 metres from either bank
of Krabi River and contain caves with stalactites and stalagmites.
Even if you don’t make the trip there, keep your eyes open
for them when you are in Krabi town and you are sure not to
miss this spectacular site, resembling a natural gateway to
Krabi. |
8. Wat Tham Seua ‘Tiger Cave Temple’  |
This famous
forest temple is a must to see on any stay in Krabi. Set
dramatically against the Ao Luk Mountain range, the dense
forest shelters dramatic caves and Krabi’s largest temple, hewn into the
rocks. There’s much to see and do here, including climbing the 1,237
steps to see the Buddha’s footstep and possibly the best hilltop
panoramic view of Krabi town, as well as fascinating trails and
caves around the bottom layer of some primary rainforest.
9. Huay Toh Waterfall
Distance from Krabi town: 25 km.
Travelling time by bus: 30 mins.
Located in the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, this exciting
waterfall cascades in 11 tiers, each of which contains a natural
pool of clear, fresh water at least 4 or 5 metres wide. The lush
surrounding jungle makes the setting even more beautiful.
10. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park
Distance from Krabi town: 60 km.Travelling time by bus: 90 mins.
This is Krabi’s finest terrestrial National Park, 500 square metres
in size. It contains many interesting sites, including 3 waterfalls,
Khao Ping Cave and plenty of lush rainforest and rugged hills. Khao
Phanom Bencha is also one of Krabi’s most important wildlife
sanctuaries, with 156 species of birds and 32 species of mammals.
Two hiking trails lead into the heart of the park, but involve steep
climbs. If you’re reasonably fit, wearing proper footwear and
feeling up to it, however, you’ll probably find it’s well worth the
trip. |

11. Thung Tieo Nature Trail

| Distance from Krabi town: 80 km. Travelling time by bus +
by foot: 90 mins. Located 16 km from the town of Klong Thom
in Krabi province, this nature trail was established to help
conserve the area’s last remains of true lowland rainforest
in Thailand. The trail itself is just 2.7 km long and covers
mostly level ground. It represents an excellent opportunity
to observe the many species of bird, plant and animal life
which inhabit the park. At the end of the trail lies the Crystal
Pool, ideal for a refreshing soak at the end of your walk. |
12. Hot spring waterfall  |
| Distance from Krabi town: 60 km. Travelling time by bus:
75 mins. Here you can enjoy the wonderful, unique experience
of relaxing in a shady, natural hot water spring, surrounded
by the towering rainforest. The hot spring waterfall is located
in Tambon Klong Tom Neua, 12 km from the District headquarters. |
| 13. Thanbok Koranee National Park |
Distance
from Krabi town: 45 km. Travelling time by bus 30 mins.
Located in Ao Luk, this park has a magnificent forest with shady
nature trails. If you walk through the park to the cave
at the river’s source, you can enjoy a cool dip in a crystal
clear small lake in front of the cave. It is said that if
you swim once in the waters here, you will always return.
14. Ao Luk
Distance from Krabi town: 45 km.
Travelling time by bus: 30 mins.
Ao Luk is famous for its natural beauty spots, including the
spectacular Diamond Cave, Hua Kalok Cave and Tham Lod. All 3 caves
are nearby to one another and easily accessed by local taxi-boat
from Thanbok Koranee, including a breath-taking sail through Tham
Lod to view stalactites and stalagmites.
15. Pee Hua Toh ( Hua Galok ) Cave
Distance from Krabi town: 47 km. Travelling
time 40 mins. This is a large cave, filled with many grottos, situated
on a hill in the middle of the water and surrounded by mangroves.
Once, a very large human skull was found here, giving the site its
name. Pee Hua Toh or ‘Big Headed Ghost’ Cave also contains prehistoric
cave paintings in large numbers of people, animals and various organs.
There are also vast numbers of shells in the sedimentary rock. To
get there, you need to take a boat from Bor Thor pier. |

16. The Hong Islands

| Distance from Krabi town: 50 km. Travelling time from Krabi
town: 90 mins by local taxi-boat/40 mins by speed boat. There
are both large and small islands in this group. The main ones
are Hong Island itself, Pakbia Island and Lading Island. Hong
Island has a great chamber or sea lagoon in its centre and
a beautiful white, powdery sand beach in the bay. It is a rocky,
limestone island, with coral formations in both shallow and
deep water, suitable for snorkelling, scuba-diving, fishing
and kayaking. |
17. Ao Talen  |
Distance from Krabi town: 20 km. Travelling time by bus: 20 mins.
A kayaking trip in Ao Talen is one of the most enjoyable ways to
spend your time in Krabi. You can explore the sea caves, natural
lagoons, mangrove forests and many caves, before passing by the
tidal forest to observe many species of wildlife. Paddling by kayak
is an ideal way to go touring past Ao Talen’s majestic cliffs and
famous canyon, along the gorge that leads into the tranquil
mountains. Some compare the experience with discovering a lost world
of natural, still beauty. |
