It is a paradise for shoppers and at a fraction of UK costs, the visitor is spoilt
for choice. Thai silk,
lacquer ware, wood carving, precious stones, embroidery and hand painted umbrellas
all vie with famous brand names.
Thailand boasts many street markets, none better known than chiang Mai's night
bazaars and Bangkok's Pratunam
and Patong, the latter actually more famous than its nightlife. |

Bo Sang Umbrella Fair & San Kamphaeng Handicrafts Festival: Bo Sang Village
is situated near Chiang Mai and
celerates the traditional art of umbrella making and painting, umbrellas are
on sale other features are exhibitions, and contest.
January and February: Chinese New Year & Dragon Parade
- This festival is conducted by locals of Chinese descent to pay respect to the
Dragon deityfor his benevolence.
There is a brightly coloured procession with bands and lion and dragon dances. |

of this annual event in Chiang Mai
Thai Folk sports festival: Bangkok - Witness the rare Thai

Phinchit Boat Races: Nan River In front of Wat Tha Luang,
Phichit - Annual boating regatta features numerous
low - slung boats raced at high speeds. Great for spectators
whether locals or tourists.
Phuket Vegetarian Festival: Amphoe Kathu, Amphoe Muang -
Locals of Chinese ancestry undertake a ten - day
vegetarian diet and various are performed at Chinese temples.

Thai Beer Festival: World Trade centre Plaza. Bangkok -The
beer festival features a bewildering array of
weird and wonderful beers, also features music and cultural
performances.
Lanna Boat Races: Saphan Phattana Phak Nuea - These impressive
long boat races are held on the Nan River
are distinctly enhanced by the brightly coloured Nan Boats. |

Patong Beach Carnival: Patong Beach, Phuket -This festival
features watersport competitions, traditional Thai foods
and beverages and a Miss Andaman contest (foreign guests
only.)
Bang Sai Loi krathong (festival of Lights): Ayutthaya - Celebratins
include traditional float and beauty contest,
exhibitions and performances.
River Kwai Bridge week Fair: River Kwai Bridge, Kanchanaburi
- A series of daily events commemorating the allied
soldiers who died building it under Japanese supervision.
Linking Thailand with Myanmar it was known as the 'Death
railway'.
Highlights include sound & lights presentations, exhibitions
and trips along the railway.
Silk Fair: Khon Kaen - Khon Kaen is one of the major centr4es
ofr silk production. Shops sell traditional and newer styles
of mysterious atmosphere.
Surin Elephant Round - up Show: Surin Main Stadium, Surin
- Internationally famous event drawing crowds from all over
